The goal of Allvoices is to create a global community that shares news, videos, images and opinions tied to events and people.
It's a place where people can tell the world what is happening where they are (location) at a particular point in time. Allvoices then brings together multiple points of view: news stories, video, images and blogs from the Internet, to provide context and build momentum. The platform provides the community the ability to search and navigate an event by location and category, to share and to have a discussion around the event.
Allvoices is an open, unedited, unmediated and highly relevant social media site.
We at Allvoices don't say "tell us your news", because we felt intimidated by the word "news". So we decided to use the word “event” and broaden the scope of news. What do we mean by the word event?
Examples of events can be as simple as
Allvoices takes your event posting, organizes it by location, time and category, and creates context by bringing together relevant news stories, blogs, images and videos. It creates a place for the community to share and discuss the event, by contributing to the event!
Events created or posted by contributors like you and me: A person can post an event on Allvoices from their cell phone with SMS or via the website, by clicking on "post an event". An event can be started with an event title, summary, location and category. A person can start an event by uploading and image or video or just as simply as writing a blog or article on Allvoices (but having a title and a summary too).
Events automatically posted by Allvoices: Allvoices uses news reported by newspapers and wire services as the starting point
On Allvoices.com, users can contribute their own perspectives on existing events too. A contribution can be an article, a blog post, comment, video, image or Q & A regarding a particular event. It can also be to help us rate the event. We invite everyone to participate in the event
Allvoices is an open, unedited and unmediated site. Every contribution is automatically checked for spam and relevance to the event. A contribution is not edited and is posted as is as long as it is relevant to the event. The relevance it checked by our algorithms and machines and not humans.
The whole idea behind contributing to an existing event is to get conversation going. It can be as simple as sharing an emotion or a just a comment. It is about multiple voices, expressing yourself - unedited in the context of an event.
The users can also share an event with their friends and other social media sites from the event page, to invite others to join the conversation!
Founded in April of 2007, Allvoices was started by passionate people who believe that everyone has a story worth telling, Sharing that story can be the first step in changing lives, That real world issues can be solved through understanding each other's perspectives.
At it's core, Allvoices is about democracy. About giving power to people. About their voices having the effect that makes a difference, that differing points of view complete the human story.
