I like your attitude in and outside the classroom. Your attitude- the discipline that you have, your time management skills and your optimism will bring you more success in life!
I hope this article will inspire your classmates to do more than what is expected of them -- the same way that you do it!
It never occurred to me that Communication is not really your first choice because you really excel in writing.
You have the talent in writing and a potential in being a leader. You just have to come out of your shell. I mean, forget about not getting what you wanted at first. You'll get what your heart desires at the right time.
After college, you may actually pursue Master's degree in UP Diliman.
But remember that the school where you are in doesn't make your future. It's still you and how you use your time while you're in school that could make the difference.
While you're here, concentrate on what you really want to achieve. There are many opportunities waiting -- just keep looking for them.
Good luck!
If you have any concern, I'm just an e-mail away :-)
Just like you, I grew up without a father. But unlike you, I would never think that the best gift God ever gave me is my father. Ha ha -- I don't think so!
My having no father wasn't a big deal, even when I was young. I never looked for anyone I never had. I never had a father-- well, I saw him walked away and left my mom when I was 7 years old. And that was my only memory of him. When he left, he brought with him all the toys that he gave us. (Toys are important to kids, right?)
When I was in college, I attempted to call him, after I found out that he was a Palanca winner and was also a UPian. I admired him for being a good literary writer and I realized why I love writing so much -- partly bec. of my mom and maybe also bec. of him.
I got to talk to him once but I felt like he really never cared for us -- that was all I remember.
Anyway, with or without a father, I lived and became happy with my life. So who needs a father, anyway?
Ha ha! I can't blame you. GMA seems to be the queen of all corrupt beings in this world. Aside from doing the stealing herself, she installs people to help her amass wealth for themselves, not to mention teaching her own children (now grown-ups) to gain unexplained wealth to secure their future while millions of Filipinos are starving.
Thanks for your comment. Well, nobody will believe that spending almost a million pesos for the president and her entourage in the US comes without any string attached. If someone else paid for such an expensive meal, of course, he expects something else in return, or maybe the president has already granted whatever he wanted from her, so the meal is an expensive way of expressing gratitude. Our president and everyone else (sorry for generalizing) on her side simply has no delicadeza to speak of. Poor Filipinos :-(
Indeed, we need a leader with moral integrity. In this country, the status in the society does not necessarily define one's moral integrity. Panlilio may be a priest, but it doesn't mean he has what we are looking for in a leader.
I think Panlilio needs a sound advice regarding his political ambition. If people respect him for his being a priest, all that respect can disappear instantly the moment he goes to Malacanang.
But then, he has a right to run for presidency -- true.
Ha! Ha! The students are made into believing that higher education can bring them higher status in life. But actually, the degree is not everything that matters when it comes to REAL LIFE. Well, at least, I still believe we can get something out of our diploma...
I agree with what you point out in your essay about utilization of social media. However, it seems that you are assuming in your article that everyone we meet online is giving a true profile of himself. Actually, there are so many lies that abound in the Internet because this medium promises anonymity. As such, it is also used by people who can hardly express themselves face-to-face.
Online communication also allows selective self-presentation so we still have to be cautious.
But you're right when you said advertising in social media is never the same as advertising in traditional media -- that's one thing advertisers should realize.
I experience the same thing. I get headache when i don't get enough dose of my coffee supply in a day. Coffee is actually the first thing I want to have in the morning and the last thing I would have before bed time-- if ever i get a chance to sleep. Sometimes, I even realize that i drink more coffee than water or any other liquid combined.
I see coffee as my companion, not as an object of addiction. Coffee keeps me going when i need to do some school stuff like preparing for my lessons, or writing my researches, or simply staying up to update my blogs.
Your article made me realize that I'm not the only one who love coffee that much. Good article--- simple and easy-to-relate-with .
I have no doubt God has nothing to do with his decision to run for presidency. There is a clear dichotomy between religion and politics. Gov. Panlilio should know this.
To win as president means to get the votes of the people and the only way to get the people's votes, at least in the Philippines, is to "sell" himself to the voting population. Advertising is about half-truth and half-truth is a lie.
A priest is not expected to lie, but a politician is not expected to tell the truth. Gov. Panlilio has to make a choice: to lie or to tell the truth; to run or to remain decent.
Perhaps it's really about time to boycott TV programs with a national movement such as yours -- no TV Day. Most of the programs on local channels are rubbish and kids are imitating what they see on TV. HOwever, the networks don't bother educating the viewers; they just think of profit.
But in our house, every day is No-TV Day. I deliberately don't expose my kids to shows on local channels. I don't give any network a right to make my kids stupid, just like their programs.
I like the connection made between your intro and your ending -- good!
Personally, I'm tired of the trapos but I don't see Panlilio as a saving grace of this country. He doesn't really have to give up priesthood for presidency if all he wants is to help the poor. Realistically, being president is not about helping the poor -- it's about power, influence and most of all, access to the people's taxes. That's how it is in this country.
The voters should start evaluating his intent as soon as he starts "courting" them. I can't imagine a priest who's supposed to help the people with their spiritual needs waving his hand to them to get their votes. It's weird, if not stupid.

You will soon get the fruits of all your labor... Hard work -- not everyone can do it so you're blessed.
By the way, don't just work hard day in and day out. Don't forget to do things you love. Pursue what you have in your heart and you'll never go wrong.
Good luck!

Let him run and let him be a loser.
I believe it 100% when you said, "It will come a point in which it will not matter who believes in you, but rather if you believe in yourself."
It's always good to do some reality check every now and then to bring us back to our sense of reality.
Online communication also allows selective self-presentation so we still have to be cautious.

Things like this do happen at times-- seeing something happening at present which you know you have seen happening in the past... Interesting!
