This has been a very lonely and devastating journey.
I am a single mother with a 21 year old son with cerebral palsy. He is a quadriplegia and is in a wheelchair. I hold a doctorate degree in Education and Nutritional Biochemistry. I’ve worked as a journalist for 20 years with national and international publications. I’ve spent the majority of my life dedicated to helping the disabled, elderly and people with HIV/AIDs. In July 2009 I was honored when Florida presented me with the 2009 Public Service Award for a life time achievement in helping the disabled and elderly.
Up until I was wrongfully arrested, I held a full-time job and 4 part-time positions in order to meet my son’s medical needs. Since my arrest over 5 years, 3 months, 13 days ago we have received government assistance because I can not get a job due to the background checks.
On July 27, 2004 I was wrongfully arrested on 10 counts of elderly and disabled neglect. My case has never been heard and no one has ever verified my employment. I was not working at the facility while it was under investigation. The first time I met the investigator was the day she arrested me. I was denied a speedy trial 4 times in 16 months; evidence was withheld, tampered with and never verified; witnesses have passed away and were never deposed and then after 19 months I was declared incompetent. Recently 2 doctors declared me competent, but the court was able to find a 3rd doctor to declare me incompetent.
In less than a year my case will be dropped due to incompetency, not because I am innocent. I will have been arrested, scarred, striped and labeled for a crime I never committed and never given the right to defend.
I have 2 reasons for living, my son and my work. - I don’t want to lose either.
I describe my story in a website called
www.florida-injustice.com.
With warm regards.
