The recent terrorist attacks in the financial and commercial district of Mumbai, India which claimed the lives of almost 200 victims mostly civilians (foreign and local tourists), military and police personnels, and left about 300 others injured was condemned by the Philippine goverment the officials here said.
These terrorist attacks was described by President Arroyo as "barbaric Acts" and uncalled for, these are unforgivable acts against humanity like what happened in New York a few years ago, she said. The President called for a unified cooperation between fellow Asian leaders to build a stronger defense against such terror attacks. Intelligence gathering and sharing between neighboring countries in the Asian region should be developed even more to halt upcoming attacks of the same intensity.
These attacks she said, was highly organized and simoultaneous and its not a fly by night operation. With these attacks in Mumbai,she stipulated tighter security measure to be implemented in each country in Asia. Authorities here has boost up security measures in various goverment and military installations, including airports, seaport, train stations, bus terminals even in commercial districts like Makati and Ortigas Pasig where most banks and malls are situated.
President Arroyo ordered General Yano, the armed forces chief to intensify military operations in Mindanao to restrict islamic militants like the MILF renegade groups and Abu Sayyaf in Sulu to start some sympathy attacks. -Agmamayo
