This is a sad story of a run-away school board that has "gone mad." The suspension of veteran english teacher Connie Heermann follows two years of controversy from the Perry Township School Board who, against massive public outcry, eventually dismissed Dr. Doug Williams, a long-time, widely-respected school Superintendent -- also for "insubordination." The uncontrolled personal antics by the Board are prompting some state lawmakers to look at ways to provide oversight to school boards in Indiana that essentially have no built-in "checks and balances." I attended the Perry Township School Board meeting on August 11th. Much good has come from the three new members and new board president.
However, Steve went over the line with the crack about the Freedom Writers. His so called "joke" was in bad taste and inappropriate.
