I am a freelance investigative reporter in Los Angeles. I am non-partisan. I investigate and report on a very controversial beat at the moment, California education. Despite the mixed reviews on some of my points of view, I welcome all comments. If you have a follow up or sources for any political education news, please let me know. My first love is comedy writing, believe it or not.

Okay - this is from a "good girl". I like your story. Any type of medium of expression meant to stimulate sexually is pornography. I don't necessarily think that there's anything bad about it (excluding some types as described by mllovric). But being upset about it is just silly. Watch it or not, it's your choice. These women are exploiting men just as much as men are exploiting the women by watching it. Let's just be honest.
Not sure how anyone came up with their conclusions about your comment. I understood exactly what you said: that violence acts have been used in the name of religion. I don't think Melbell was talking about you because you never said "that some religion is the "true" religion".
You are doing just fine. I understood the entire article. However, to comment on the story itself, which you portrayed quite nicely, I do not trust anybody who proclaims that God has destined him to do something. It's especially risky when that person credits God's power to govern so many people.
No, no, no -- that's the problem. I am not blaming "special needs kids" (actually it should be kids with special needs). Anyway, that's the entire point. This reporter who writes for a national agency erroneously and intentionally said that I said that.
My originating article called out the federal government for not funding programs that it mandates (including IDEA). Because I used this reporter's legal settlement as an example of out-of-pocket school district costs for legal settlements, she accused me blaming special needs programs. I have never, never, never said that.
Evidently, I unintentionally insulted her by using her case in my original article. I don't know her and I had no idea that she was a reporter. That's the story. Make sense?
I better change this if anyone misreads this as you did. Yuck.
You know what -- You're right Rosalind. I will give a disclaimer, I think it goes without saying, but I am wrong. If you use the resources that I give you to make a formal teacher complaint to the state, please be very carefuly not to be frivolous as advised in Rosalind's comment. The last thing that we want to do is to have that avenue taken away or abused.
Though the affidavit of the teacher complaint is "under penalty of perjury", the last thing anybody wants is to have a teacher bullied without cause.

I just wrote an article about media bias and silver plate by the adminstration, in part. what a great discussion. JSMith inspired me to write it because I had a run in with a LA Times reporter. Tell me what you think. http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-5067-Education-in-the-News-Examiner~y2009m7d12-What-has-happened-to-authentic-journalism--Agendas-and-conflicts-of-interest-in-reporting?#comments
So much fighting has been done in the name of religion and righteousness. I fear for that region of the world in that everyone holds on so strongly to their own point of view, that it is impossible to come to an amicable resolution.
If the goal and ambition in that region is to have a jewish free state, than that will fail and fighting will not cease. If the Israeli goal is to push back and not compromise, fighting will not cease.
I can give my personal opinion about jews though. I do not understand why they are so "hated". They have been without a homeland for thousands of years dating back to before Moses when they were slaves in Egypt. The autrocities against the jews, as recently as WWII, has been devasting to humanity and our world.
Around the world, there has many examples of reparations, right here in America too (slaves). Why not allow some sort of reparations for jews? Understandable the anger of taking settlements - but can't there be a better way to compromise that will smile on history later?
What a great inspirational story about gangs in LA. Wouldn't it be amazing if all of the gang members were inspired by Homeboy Industries. It would be a great contribution to humanity. Good work telling this inspirational side of urban life in LA.
No - don't let your friend give up on himself. Life is too short to let your health go. Your story headline should be, "Don't give up on health because you think life's too short." How was that?
This is a lively, if not colorful, debate. I am also a border native, having lived near the Vancouver B.C. border in Washington as a youth. I love being an american and part of that responsibility is to promote american values. Going to Vancouver was always a big thrill for me (and it's not because the drinking age was 18 instead of 21), the people are different; I think more open-minded. One other topic of information for Ross - and I am not trying to pick a fight with anyone - there are fusion centers in the major cities accross America, which are surveillance centers. Its purpose, a contribution of the Homeland Security Data Network and the National Counterterrorism Center, is to find illegal chatter to find and interrogate anyone suspected. The standard is "all crimes and hazards." The problem that I see with this is that I was speeding yesterday which is considered a crime. The language is too broad and we could be climbing a slippery slope in our zeal to protect our nation. Striking a balance is key.
For what it's worth, I read your article carefully, Selfmade. I think you fairly addressed the concerns of the public at large with respect to celebrity lawyers. Celebrity lawyers put themselves in the spotlight by seeking out a reputation for themselves as the guy who will get you "off". That does put a bad taste in the mouth of a lot of people. A fair representation at trial is one thing, but a platform of championing the escape of justice, it's not my cup of tea either (Although I see you drink coffee). I think that Justice 101 is your devil's advocate. For someone who dismisses your credentials, and calls names, including uneducated, he sure listens in and takes the time to write. Don't worry about that, it happens to the best of commentaries. You wrote a commentary about your perspective.
Yes, "luckily" you're in Pakistan - but I was commenting about your Ahmadinejad article and the future of that country. Also, your oppression in Pakistan - drinking a beer will get you arrested?
Wow! More people need to read your stuff and we need to understand what you go through Changez. You are the future of the free world. I hear people critize Moussavi, who is not as much of a reformist as America wants. But I really believe that the young, future generation of the middle east doesn't necessarily want Moussavi, they want change. Ahmadinejad won support for this promise of putting oil revenues on the plates of Iranian citizens, which never happened. Women are still oppressed, my new friend Changez is still oppressed. I sit here at my computer sipping a fine red Cab while commenting and all the while changez is being judged for his every move. You deserve US sponsorship my friend. Or do they need you more over there? It feels unfair that I was born in this wonderland of opportunity. I didn't earn it or fight for it like you do. Query!!!!!
My daughter, who is also 12, (Selfmade our girls are the same age) has a devasting blood condition (HSC). She has had major suergeries removing her spleen, gallbladder and installing a shunt for hemoglobulin. I couldn't imagine that she would be in a situation where she would have to make a decision compromising her health, simply because she's afraid.

Good point Rosalind.
