What a great application of the history lesson, Fauzia. Thanks for contributing that wonderful comment.

Great post, Fauzia. I would love to give this a try. Old ways are the best ways, sometimes!

Good to see you posting again. That's a cool story of your virtually tracking your flight on laptop--and gaining the attention of the pilot in the process. I remember as a kid reading the predictions of what computers would be doing in the coming years. Those predictions really did come true.

Main Street is really decked out...and you guys don't need artificial snow, either!

No, it is not only in Canada that marijuana is criminalized. This is a policy that needs to be changed. Marijuana needs to be controlled and regulated by the state, not ineffectively prohibited.

This article is not about Grassley's age. I'm concerned about his performance and embarrassed by his remarks.

It appears that the content of this opinion piece upset you from the tone of your comment. Thank you for contributing your differing opinion. I don't expect the world to agree with me. I would appreciate less rancor and personal attack, and I suspect your argument would be assisted by sticking to the matter at hand and minimizing ad hominum remarks.

Thanks, ScottCalvin, blackwidow351w, homericus6 (good to see you here!), and Difts! I appreciate your comments. You brought forward good examples and ideas. And, yes!: This applies to both sides of the aisle!

This is really interesting to me since I was just reporting on a Hindu Indian-American engagement celebration I attended. The jewelry on display that evening was remarkable.

It is always nice to see celebrities use their fame to advance the good of the world.

Bill Moyers is the best thing on television. I promise I will return to listen to the entire segment. I tend to agree with you the politicians and elected leaders take their orders from other than those who vote for them--rather for those who pay for their elections and other benefits. Those who really run the show are behind the curtain.

Thanks for a nice report from Denver. Those temperatures are really tough to stand in--shows the commitment of the participants.

Unfortunately, Fauzia, this is no surprise. I'm sure they weren't going to announce, "Gee, I think we'll give up." Obama's war will be bloody and steathy and will create even more enemies for the U.S. Thank you for providing the reaction from your region.

Absolutely right on target, Vernon! Excellent composition and the content is just the perfect message for these economic times and for this month. People unfortunately subjected to endless marketing have been convinced that it is "things" and not relationships that bring happiness. I wish I could make this essay required reading. Thanks for another great one.

What a gem of a comment, Fauzia. Thanks for adding your first-hand perspective from Pakistan. My heart is with you, and I know that what hardships we suffer in Texas are nothing compared to the suffering in your country.

This comment is amazingly insightful! I don't believe I've seen anyone put that thought together before.

If you wish, please call me Billie. I just love your comments and your wonderful sense of humor (as you know).

Thanks very much for contributing this insightful comment.

Once again, birdpond, you've written a very thought-provoking comment, one which I believe you could expand into quite an interesting post. I've been pondering the point you raise here, and I conclude: who gets to decide who is the weakest? You consider yourself one of the weak and poor, and I must assume you mean economically poor because, from my point of view, you are one of the most well-respected and articulate contributors on Allvoices.

I spend quite a bit of time with people who, for one reason or another, are at the margins of society. Maybe others would consider them weak/poor, but I have learned so much and been so inspired by them that I would beg to differ.

Update on police assassinations in Mexico: This was in my email inbox 11/27/09, our El Paso, Texas sister-city:

"At least 4 people were killed yesterday in Juarez, including a municipal policeman. This is the 7th municipal policeman to be killed in November; so far this year, 20 municipal police have been murdered this year."

Can you imagine the chaos, the uproar if 20 police were murdered in any one US city this year?
