Of the world's 8 largest economies, the United States is doing the least to counter global warming, reported the G-8 Climate Scorecard. Those economies who have made significant headway in reducing emissions in their countries are Britain, France, and Germany, though scientists report that none of these countries is doing enough.

The World Wildlife Fund, whcih commissioned the report, recommended that countries aim to reduce emissions by 40% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. If they don't, the earth could face catastrophic climate changes.

The Group of Eight: U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, and Russia, are set to meet in Japan next week.
