The Federal Bureau of Investigation continues its journey from classical crime-fighting unit to a task force charged with protecting the United States from terrorism.
Presently, the FBI is required to possess some minimum evidence before it can investigate an individual on grounds of involvement in terrorist activity. But the Justice Department may change that later this summer so that people can be probed based on how well they fit a pre-defined terrorist profile. The profile could include considerations of travel to areas suspected to be affiliated with terrorists, access to ammunition and as expected, ethnic identity.
This would mean that the Muslim community in the United States would be subjected to additional scrutiny and be alienated even further from their home nation that has always prided itself on being the melting pot of the world.
