Once again we see astonishing news coming out of Iraq. This time it is the earth shattering news about that the Iraqi army is targeting Iraqi boys who cannot read and are from the less fortunate parts of the Iraqi society. Huh? Is anyone really surprised? I guess that is what amazes me more than anything. Especially the hypocrisy of the US who thinks this is so terrible. "How can they do that to the sons of Iraq?" Wait, aren't you in the US doing exactly the same thing? The US army very much relies on the constant protein vein from the uneducated population of the US or just the very immature. Constantly you see the TV ads - "You made him strong, we will make him Army strong." Very cute indeed. What they do not tell you is that you will face an enemy that will shoot back, and that the bullets and grenades are real ones. They do some pretty real damage. The enemy is real. You have only one life, not three. There are no shortcuts. There are no replays. There are no undo buttons or commands. It is very, very different from the video games you play with friends during the weekends. The guys you kill are not the cool animated enemies, but real human beings. They breath just like you and me. They eat just like you and me. They have real moms. They have real dads. They have real siblings. Yep. Just like you and me.
Maybe it is then better to be uneducated and clueless then. I don't know. What I do know is that is completely unfair to send small, immature nineteen years old boys and girls who don't have a clue what they are signing up to do. But then again maybe illiteracy is the right way to go then to avoid complete and utter craziness. So maybe it is better to be completely oblivious of reality.
