Hu Jintao (Pinyin: Hú Jǐntāo, pronounced [xǔ t͡ɕìntʰɑ́ʊ̯]) was born December 21, 1942 and is the current Paramount Leader of the People's Republic of China. He has held the titles of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China since 2002, President of the People's Republic of China since 2003, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission since 2004, succeeding Jiang Zemin as the top leader of fourth generation leadership of the Communist Party of China.
Hu Jintao, ethnic Han, native of Jixi, Anhui Province in high school was a gifted student excelling in activities such as singing and dancing. It is also stated that Mr. Hu has a photographic memory which became apparent in his high school days.
Mr. Hu joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in April of 1964 while a student at Tsinghua University He was the chairman of Tsinghua Student Union at that time then graduated from Tsinghua in Hydraulic Engineering and began working in July of 1965. At Tsinghua, Hu met a fellow student Liu Yongqing, now his wife. They have a son and a daughter named Hu Haifeng and Hu Haiqing respectively. Hu is the first PRC leader to speak relatively unaccented Standard Chinese without strongly regional characteristics per Wikipedia.
