Person Biography:(required) Mohammad Amin al-Husayni (Arabic: محمد أمين الحسيني‎, often printed with the French transliteration al-Husseini, 1895/1897 - July 4, 1974), a member of the al-Husayni clan of Jerusalem, was a Palestinian Arab nationalist and Muslim leader in the British Mandate of Palestine. In a report of recently declassified information by the American government and published in the National Archives, the British head of Palestine’s Criminal Investigation Division told an American military attaché that the Mufti might be the only person who could unite the Palestine Arabs and “cool off the Zionists." . From 1921 to 1948, he was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, and, as a virulent antisemite, he played a key role in opposition to Zionism and a state for the Jews living in Palestine and collaborated with the Nazis.
