Person Biography:(required) <p>Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee known to everyone as the 44th governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007 has decided to seek the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.</p> <p>The author of several bestselling books, Huckabee was a candidate in the 2008 United States Republican presidential primaries and opened it with a surprising win in Iowa Republican caucuses. He also proved himself as a significant factor all the way to the end and winning the delegate winner-take-all states of California, Florida and New York State.</p> <p>An ordained Southern Baptist minister as well as a musician, Huckabee hosts a talk show on FOX News called "<em>Huckabee"</em>. He tied the knot to his wife Janet, who was an unsuccessful candidate in the run for the 2008 Arkansas Secretary of State, 36 years ago and the two share three grown children.</p> <p><strong>Early life:</strong></p> <p>Born to Mae Elder and Dorsey Wiles Huckabee in Arkansas, Mike Huckabee cited his working class upbringing as the reason behind his populist conservative political views. At the early age of 14, he worked at a radio station, where he used to read news and weather. During his school years, he was elected student council vice president at Hope High School from 1971 to 72. Again during 1972-73, he was elected as president student council in the same school.</p> <p>He completed his bachelor's degree from Ouachita Baptist University and later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas.</p> <p><strong>Political Career and 2012 Presidential Campaign:</strong></p> <p>On 15th of July 1996, Huckabee swore as the governor of Arkansas and remained in office till 2007. In 2008, he announced his run for the White House and won Iowa Republican caucuses on January 3, 2008.<strong> </strong></p> <p>Addressing the possibility of running in the presidential election 2012, Huckabee was quoted as saying by the Associated Press, "I am not ruling out anything out for the future, but I am not making any specific plans."</p> <p>Huckabee enjoys a broad appeal among evangelical voters and has become a leading Republican contender for 2012.</p> <p>When asked by MSBNC's Rachel Maddow whether he considered himself as a possible candidate for the 2012 election, after it was announced on Fox News television on May 14, 2011 that Huckabee had declined to run, he said, "I don't want to be considered, because, four years ago, all the people that were touted as the front runners, none of them made it....So, if you're one of the names very early on, that probably means you haven't got a chance."</p> <p><a href="http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/11007020-paul-gingrich-romney-and-bachman-on-huckabee-this-saturday">R</a>on Paul, Gingrich and Romney on Huckabee this Saturday</p>
