Currently Bloomberg is serving as the Mayor of New York City and is the 13^th richest person in the United States, having a net worth of $18.1 billion in 2011. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Bloomberg was born on 14^th February 1942, in Brighton, Boston. He graduated in 1964, receiving his degree in Bachelors in engineering. Later on he received his MBA degree from Harvard Business School. In 1975, he married Susan Brown and together they have two daughters. Bloomberg later on divorced Brown and is now romantically linked with the former New York state banking superintendent, Diana Taylor. He resides in his own home, on the Upper East Side of the Manhattan, rather than in the official mayor’s mansion.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Bloomberg started his business career in 1981 setting up a company named Innovative Market Systems. With Merrill Lynch as its first customer to install its Market Master terminals, within years the company rapidly expanded and was later on named Bloomberg L.P. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Bloomberg is considered one of the wealthiest people in the United States. In 2009, Bloomberg moved from 142^nd to 17^th in the Forbes list of the World billionaire in just two years.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">He has been involved in philanthropic endeavors, including a donation of over $300 million to Johns Hopkins University where he also served as the chairman of the board for eight years. According to New York Times he has been an anonymous donor to the Carnegie Corporation for several years.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>He is also reported to give away millions of dollars to non profit organizations from time to time.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Bloomberg started his political career long before he ran for the mayor of New York City. Being a long time Democrat, he switched his registration in 2001 as a Republican and not only won the elections that year, but also a second term in 2005. Later on, some philosophical disagreements came between him and the party, and he ran for his third term as an independent candidate 2009, after seeking to extend the city’s term laws. The city council voted in favor of the extension, allowing Bloomberg to take him office again. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">During his tenure, Bloomberg stood as a strong oppose of death penalty, social promotions and cell phones in schools.
