Person Biography:(required) <p> <p>Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva was born September 23, 1943 in Madrid, the oldest son of Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga and Maria del Rosario de la Cueva ty Perignat, and better known simply as Julio Iglesias. Iglesias is a Spanish singer who has sold over 300 million records worldwide in 14 different languages and has released a total of 77 albums. Sony Music Entertainment claims that Julio Iglesias is one of the top 10 best selling music artists in history. Iglesias became internationally renowned in the 70s and 80s as a performer of romantic ballads.  Julio Iglesias, although originally from Madrid, Spain, now resides in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.</p> <p>Iglesias' father's family was from Galicia, and Iglesias' mother, who was Jewish, traced her ancestry to Andalusia. Iglesias was followed by a younger brother, Carlos. When Iglesias was 61 years old, his 89 year old father produced more children: half brother Jaime born on May 18, 2004, half-sister Ruth born on July 26, 2006. Julio's siblings were born to Dr. Iglesias Puga's second marriage to Ronna Keitt, who is African-American.</p> <p>In the 1960s, Julio Iglesias studied law in Madrid and was a goalkeeper for one of Real Madrid's soccer teams. During this time period, he had a car crash that injured his spinal cord on September 22, 1963 and ruined his soccer career. He said, "I had a car accident; [a] very, very strange car accident...I lost control of the car and rolled it, resulting in what they call 'paraparexia,' which is not a paraplegi[a]. It's a compression in the [spinal] cord, in the sense of the neck...my spinal cord; and I was very, very ill for three years."</p> <p>Doctors thought Julio Iglesias would never walk again as his legs were left permanently weakened, and they continued to require therapy as of late October 2010. To develop and increase the dexterity of his hands he began playing the guitar. When he recovered from the accident, he returned to school and traveled to the United Kingdom to study the English language.</p> <p>By 1971, Julio Iglesias married Filipina journalist, Isabel Preysler, and had three children: Chabeli Iglesias, Julio Iglesias, Jr. and Enrique Iglesias. Iglesias' marriage to Preysler was annulled in 1979.</p> <p>On August 24, 2010, Julio Iglesias and Miranda Rijnsburger got married after their 20-year relationship. The religious ceremony took place in the Parish of the Virgen del Carmen of Marbella and was followed by a Mass of thanksgiving in the chapel on the property the couple owns.
