Person Biography:(required) <p> </p> <p>Jon Huntsman is a Republican politician who served as the 16th governor of Utah. He has announced his run for the 57th quadrennial United States presidential elections that will be held on November 6, 2012.</p> <p><strong>Biography:</strong></p> <p>Jon Meade Huntsman was born on 26th March, 1960, to parents Jon Huntsman, Sr. and Karen Haight Huntsman. He grew up in Palo Alto, California. He went to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor's degree in international politics.</p> <p><strong>Early Life:</strong></p> <p>When he was in his youth, Jon Huntsman participated in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and earned the organization's highest rank "Eagle Scout." For two years, he served as a missionary in Taiwan.</p> <p><strong>Professional Life:</strong></p> <p>Jon Huntsman worked as a White House staff assistant for Ronald Reagan. In the early 90s, George H.W. Bush appointed him as the deputy assistant secretary of commerce. During 1992-1993, he was the United States ambassador to Singapore.</p> <p>Jon Huntsman has commendable initiatives to his credit; he launched the global trade negotiations in Doha, Qatar, in 2001, where he guided the accession of China and Taiwan into the World Trade Organization.</p> <p>Apart from public service and politics, Huntsman served as an executive for the Huntsman Corporation, the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, and CEO of Huntsman Family Holdings Company. Other organizations he has served include the Utah Opera, Envision Utah, the Coalition for Utah's Future, and KSL-TV's Family Now campaign.</p> <p><strong>Governor of Utah:</strong></p> <p>In 2004, Jon Huntsman was elected as the governor of Utah. He was reelected in 2008 with 78% of the vote. He cut taxes by more than $400 million during his tenure. This has been the largest tax cut in the history of Utah.</p> <p>Huntsman did an impressive job while he was the governor of Utah and despite the massive tax cuts, he was able to maintain a budget surplus.</p> <p>Under his governorship, the state of Utah was named the "Best Managed State in America" by Pew Research Center. Huntsman was also the chairman of "Western Governors Association".</p> <p>On August 11, 2009, Jon Huntsman resigned as governor and accepted the position of United States ambassador to China, appointed by President Barack Obama.</p> <p><strong>Political Views:</strong></p> <p>Jon Huntsman is known to have a mixture of stance on social issues. At one instance, he was described as a "conservative technocrat-optimist with moderate positions who was willing to work substantively with President Barack Obama."</p> <p><strong>Personal Life:</strong></p> <p>Jon Huntsman is married to Mary Kaye Huntsman and has seven children - out of which two girls were adopted from India and China.</p> <p> </p>
