Person Biography:(required) <p><strong>Charlie Crist</strong></p> <p><strong>Charles Joseph Crist Jr. better known as Charlie Crist is running for the Presidency in the 2012 United States presidential elections</strong></p> <p><strong>Brief Political Snapshot</strong></p> <p>Charlie Crist, full name Charles Joseph Crist Jr. is running for the presidency during the 2012 United States presidential elections as an independent. Charlie Crist is an American politician who was the 44th Governor of Florida. Prior to being elected as the Governor of Florida, Charlie served as Florida State Senator, Education Commissioner and Attorney General. He was elected as the Governor of Florida in the year 2006 and he won against his opponent Jim Davis by obtaining 52.4 percent of the vote.</p> <p>Charlie Crist’s term as the Governor of Florida came to an end in January, 2011. He had announced on the 9th of May, 2009 that he would run for the U.S. Senate seat which was being vacated by Republican Mel Martinez. However he later decided that he would run as an independent in the general elections and lost to Republican Marco Rubio during that time.</p> <p><strong>Early Life and Education</strong></p> <p>Charlie Crist was born in the Pennsylvanian town of Altoona but he later moved with his family to St. Petersburg in Florida, United States. Charlie Crist was born to Charles Joseph Crist. Sr., who is an American physician of Greek Cypriot descent, and Nancy of Scots-Irish American descent. Crist’s family name is adapted from the original Greek name ‘Christodoulou’. Charlie Crist has three sisters namely; Margaret Crist Wood, Elizabeth Crist Hyden, and Catherine Crist Kennedy and he is the second child in the family.</p> <p>As a child, Charlie Crist attended the Rivera Middle School and graduated from the St. Petersburg High School in 1974. After that he attended the Wake Forest University for two years earned his undergraduate degree from the Florida State University. At the university, Crist was elected as the Vice President of the student body and became member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Crist got his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law in Alabama and cleared his bar in the third attempt.</p> <p><strong>Political Aspirations </strong></p> <p>After graduating and getting his law degree, Charlie Crist accepted a position as counsel to Minor League Baseball in St. Petersburg, Florida. However politics always attracted him and he tried his luck at it by joining the Senate in 1986. Unluckily he failed miserably at it and later joined his brother-in-law’s private law practice. He again tried his luck in politics by becoming an aid to Senate candidate and eventual winner Connie Mack, who won a Senate seat in 1992. After that there was no looking back for Charlie Crist, who never left the world of politics since then.</p> <p>Charlie Crist is credited with making the Office of Open Government by Executive Order to make the government more accessible to the people. He is also focused on addressing the state’s high property taxes and insurance costs.</p> <p>Charlie Crist has been married twice and is currently living with his second wife in Florida. </p>
