Casey Anthony is the mother of Caylee Anthony, an American child who disappeared in June 2008. The child's body was discovered five months later.

Casey Anthony, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder on October 14, 2008, and was in county jail when jury selection for her trial began May 9, 2011. Casey maintains she did not harm her daughter and that she is innocent of all charges.

The following diary entry by Casey Anthony is dated "June 21" and reads:

I have no regrets, just a bit worried. I just want for everything to work out OK. I completely trust my own judgment and know that I made the right decision. I just hope that the end justifies the means. I just want to know what the future will hold for me. I guess I will soon see – This is the happiest that I have been in a very long time. I hope that my happiness will continue to grow– I've made new friends that I really like. I've surrounded myself with good people– I am finally happy. Let's just hope that it doesn't change.

Casey Anthony was found not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse on July 5, 2011. The jury only found her guilty on four misdemeanor counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.

Judge Perry sentenced her as follows:

  • Count Four: The defendant told law enforcement that she was employed at Universal Studios during 2008, pursuant to the investigation of a missing persons report.
  • Count Five: The defendant told law enforcement that she had left Caylee at an apartment complex with a babysitter causing law enforcement to pursue the missing babysitter.
  • Count Six: The defendant told law enforcement that she informed two "employees" of Universal Studios, Jeff Hopkins and Juliet Lewis, at Universal, of the disappearance of Caylee.
  • Count Seven: The defendant told law enforcement that she had received a call and spoke to Caylee on July 15, 2008 causing law enforcement to expend further resources.

Judge Perry sentenced Casey Anthony to one year in jail and $1,000 in fines for each of the four counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer, the maximum penalty prescribed by law.
