Venus Williams US Open Outfit Venus Williams donned a strikingly unusual tennis outfit while playing in the US Open on Sunday, September 5, 2010. Williams' outfit was a hot pinkish-red, sequined dress with a dark-colored bottom underneath. The silver and gold sequins on the dress were arranged in a fireworks pattern. Williams explained her choice of outfit, telling fans that: "So far this year my outfits have been based on the cities that I play in. This outfit was supposed to be about New York. It's like bursts of fireworks." The US Open is held each year at Flushing Meadows in New York. Williams wore a similar outfit during play on Friday, September 3, 2010. This particular outfit was also a black, one-piece tennis dress. The very short dress also featured sequins in a fireworks pattern. The outfit did seem to pose a logistical problem, riding up during her match against Mandy Minella. Fortunately, Williams was wearing a pair of flesh-colored, bicycle-style underpants underneath the dress. As a result, while Williams did have to pull the dress down several times during the match, she did not suffer a "wardrobe malfunction." Love it or hate it, these outfits brought Williams good luck on the US Open tennis courts: the number three seed won both matches.
