BP used to be my favorite fuel and convenience stop. Recently I Pre-paid for $20 worth of fuel using my debit card. The pump was set to that amount. Later that day, I noticed a $75 "pre-authorization" fee deducted from my account. I went back to the BP station where the manager explained why a pre-auth fee is taken. Supposedly to cover the cost of pre-payment when the debit card issuer is estimating the amount of fuel that will be taken. (lame. The pump was set to $20 - the issuer knows exactly how much fuel would be taken) Anyway, the card issuer claims that the vendor takes the pre-authorization fee and may keep it up to 8 business days.

Don't you find that a bit apalling? It's MY money that the vendor had no right to. I need groceries but according to this cyber-juggling of my numbers, I will need to wait 5 more days.

Is any of that legal? Am I the only one who is upset? Yes, yes. Of course I know now to use credit at the pump.

I don't supposed Mr. Hayward or anyone else at BP will care about my trivial $75. sigh. just, sigh.
