Daschle was the Senate minority leader at the time and he quotes Isaiah 9:10, thereby directly applying Israel's defiance of God's judgement at the time of the Assyrian invasion directly to the USA. John Edwards, the vice-presidential candidate repeated this foolish defiance in 2004 and Obama in July 2012 repeated a paraphrase of this verse which he then wrote on one of the steel beams at the world trade centre one site.
