SNAP to Health: A Fresh Approach to Strengthening the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Capitol Hill Briefing. July 18, 2012. Welcome. With 1 out of 6 people experiencing food insecurity in America and with 67% of the population overweight or obese, innovative strategies are needed to promote healthy nutrition for SNAP beneficiaries and reduce health complications linked to hunger and obesity in the years ahead. Strengthening SNAP is a critical ingredient in meeting 21st-century public health challenges and nutrition needs. This video provides a forum for dialogue and debate among a broad range of stakeholders, including SNAP participants, academics, state and federal program administrators, advocacy groups, retailers, food industry representatives and the general population. During this challenging economic time, America requires cutting-edge solutions to its public health problems more than ever. We hope that this site helps to identify strategies to promote healthy nutrition and fosters discussion, collaboration and innovation among those working to improve health, reduce food insecurity and prevent obesity in the United States.
