Ramadan Message by US Ambassador to Turkmenistan Robert E. Patterson
TRANSCRIPT TEXT: "ORAZA BAYRAMYŇYZ KABUL BOLSUN!" My name is Robert Patterson and I am the United States Ambassador to Turkmenistan. In my position, I have the honor of representing the American people -- a people of many nationalities and many faiths. The United States is the home of many thriving and vibrant Muslim communities -- communities that can be found in all fifty states. People in these communities, much like yourselves, are now enjoying the season of Ramadan -- a very special time of year. On their behalf, and on the behalf of every American, I want to extend my best wishes to you, the people of Turkmenistan, for a happy and blessed Ramadan. Ramadan is a time when Muslims reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith, and the responsibility that human beings have to one another, and to God. Like many people of different faiths who have known Ramadan through our communities and families, I know this to be a festive time -- a time when families gather, friends host iftars, and meals are shared. But I also know that Ramadan is a time of intense devotion and reflection -- a time when many Turkmen fast during the day and perform prayers at night, reciting and listening to the entire Koran over the course of the month. These rituals remind us all of the principles that we hold in common, and of Islam's role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.
