Clip from the fantastic series 'Edward the Seventh'. In this scene Victoria is pregnant with the future of Edward VII. The series itself is superb in maintaining an impressive level of accuracy including in this scene. The real Victoria was not pleased when she discovered her pregnancy, fearing how this would immobilise her and that it had occurred too soon into her marriage (she became pregnant with her first child very quickly after her wedding). Victoria was also not fond of babies; she asserted that all women who liked being pregnant were 'disgusting' and that all babies were ugly. When her uncle wrote to congratulate her upon the birth of her first child and he wrote that he wished the baby was the first of many, Victoria furiously replied: 'You cannot really wish me to be the Mamma d'une nombreuse famille for I think you will see with me the great inconvenience a large family would be to us all, and particularly to the country, independent of the hardship and inconvenience to myself; men never think, at least seldom think what a hard task it is for us women to go through this very often'.
