After watching their leader suffer a potentially serious injury, the White Sox gathered enough resources Friday to overcome their apprehension over the condition of Paul Konerko. Five innings after watching his mentor suffer a cut and swelling around his left eye after getting hit with a Jeff Samardzija pitch in the third inning, Gordon Beckham came through with a tie-breaking home run in the eighth to vault the Sox to a 3-2 victory over the City Series-rival Cubs at Wrigley Field. Konerko was evaluated at Rush University Medical Center and a CT scan showed no damage other than the laceration and swelling. He will be examined again Saturday to determine if he suffers from any post-concussion symptoms.
