My guest today is Congressman John Shimkus. Mr. Shimkus is a Republican member of the Illinois Congressional delegation. Congressman Shimkus, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy, recently led a delegation of Committee members and staff on a tour of Yucca Mountain. Congress and previous Administrations have designated Yucca Mountain as the long-term storage site for nuclear waste in the United States. Congressman Shimkus represents the Illinois 19th Congressional district. As a result of the 2010 census, Illinois, like Missouri, is losing one seat in Congress. That means during the 2012 election there will be no 19th district. This may seem eerily familiar to Mr. Shimkus who used to represent the Illinois 20th until after the year 2000 Census. Illinois lost one seat and Mr. Shimkus was forced to run against and defeat his colleague, 19th district Congressman David Phelps.
