John Elias Baldacci (born January 30, 1955) is an American politician who has served as the Governor of the U.S. state of Maine since 2003. A Democrat, he also served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003. On May 6, 2009, Governor Baldacci attracted national attention when he became the second Governor in the United States to sign a gay marriage bill into law, after M. Jodi Rell of Connecticut, and the first to do so without a court order.
