Barney Frank has been called one of the nation's brightest and most energetic defenders of civil rights issues, and, one of the most powerful members of Congress due to his ability to build bridges across party lines. Not without his detractors or scandals, he has nonetheless won every one of his re-election campaigns since 1983 by wide margins.
