Asif Ali Zardari (Urdu, Sindhi: آصف علی زرداری) (born 26 July 1955) is the 11th and current President of Pakistan and the Co-Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Zardari is the widower of Benazir Bhutto, who twice served as Prime Minister of Pakistan. When his wife was assassinated in December 2007, he became the leader of the PPP. Zardari is among the five richest men in Pakistan with an estimated net worth of US$1.8 billion (2005).
"I dread a Pakistan ruled by Zardari. Just like every other Pakistani, I truly do. But that may in fact be the price we have to pay to move ahead in the hope for democracy and the institutional development that is bound to come after this period of strife." - Emad Nadim
And now that he's here, we can do nothing but pray that Pakistan survives at least a few years under his rule. The day he was elected, the price of electricity increased by 31%... What a predictably unfortunate turn of events.
