Russia intends to spend more than US$600 billion to re-equip its armed forces with cutting-edge weaponry. Defense minister Anatoly Serdyukov says the programme might also include buying US military technology, in what would be the first such purchase since World War Two. Serdyukov is looking abroad for arms Russian companies can't provide. It follows President Medvedev's demand to technically upgrade the army by 2015.
