Diabetes eJournal Club , an online continuing medical education (CME) activity designed to address gaps in knowledge and competence among physicians and other healthcare professionals who treat and manage patients with type 2 diabetes. In the first half of 2011, the Diabetes eJournal Club will meet on the first Tuesday of the monthMarch 1, April 5, and May 3, and again on July 12. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. The Diabetes eJournal Club is directed to endocrinologists, primary care physicians, internists, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals who treat and manage patients with type 2 diabetes. Each interactive monthly session discusses a recent peer-reviewed journal article and its relevance to clinical behavior in everyday practice. Diabetes eJournal Club sessions include: A live, 15-minute discussion between the moderator and lead author of a recent peer-reviewed publication; participants may download a copy of the journal abstract (or article in the public domain) to read in advance of the session Learner participation; a live, 15-minute question and answer session gives participants an opportunity to query the author about the article's relevance to everyday practice Continuing medical education certification for physicians Session availability for 1 year as archived streaming media or MP3 download; archived activities include the discussion, Q&A, and pre- and posttests The Diabetes eJournal Club focuses on cardiovascular risk in patients with diabetes, who are two to four times more likely to be diagnosed with heart disease or suffer a stroke than people without diabetes. CME activity show that a substantial number of clinicians need help implementing treatment strategies for type 2 diabetes that will achieve established therapeutic targets for glucose, blood pressure, and lipids and meet the recommendations of the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
