Moussaka summons memories of Greece
I first tasted moussaka in the early part of July 1993, when I was 22. The ferry had plowed across the Adriatic Sea from Brindisi, Italy, to dock deep in the Grecian Gulf of Corinth. On the landing, I bit into my first-ever fresh fig, purchased from an old man with a cart of the sweet, green-purple fruit.
