Six months after Ike, thousands unable to return home
The destruction wrought by Hurricane Ike is as visible as the increasing signs of recovery, but unseen are the thousands driven from their homes who so far are unable to return. Nearly 16,000 families in the Galveston-Houston area are living in temporary shelter under federal housing programs.
