Rommana Software just announced the release of Rommana ALM 12.2 with a new Workflow module that gives complete methodology guidance. October 28, 2012
“A tool without a methodology is not helpful because project teams have no guidance as of what to do, how to do it, and when to do it,” said Dr. Magdy Hanna, CTO and Chief Architect at Rommana Software. “Most tools assume that users know how to write good requirements and how to design tests, which is not always the case. With most tools, you always need a consultant to coach you and teach you what to do, what not to do, how to do it, and when to do it.”
With the new Rommana Workflow feature, Rommana users can now see what the next step in the project is based on their role and based on tasks completed so far. “The Rommana Workflow takes ALM tools in a new direction where a consultant is no longer needed to mentor project teams,” Said Dr. Hanna. “Enormous Consulting fees have been always a hidden expense of most ALM tools. It is our intent to have team members effectively use all features of Rommana without the need for a consultant.”
What Else is New in Rommana 12.2?
In addition to the Methodology workflow, Rommana 12.2 provides enhanced support for agile development by enabling all reports to be filtered by iteration as well as by release. The Collaboration Management component has also been enhanced to maximize collaboration between team members throughout the project.
All entities in Rommana can now be exported to Excel. It is also possible to import bug reports stored in Excel.
The new Document Management component provides a complete support of maintaining, reviewing, updating and approving all project documents.
With the integration with Subversion SVN, Rommana 12.2 now allows a complete impact analysis where project team can understand how changes to one piece of code affect other functionality. From the Rommana’s Requirement screen, a single click will display all the implemented code modules. One-click capabilities are similarly provided in the Scenario screen and the Use Case screen allowing users to see which code modules and which requirements have been impacted.
“Requirements are not good enough to derive tests or write code from. As a result, you always end up with poor test design,” said Hanna. “The software engineering community is still struggling with the concept of testable requirements. That’s why Rommana supports scenarios which fall between requirements and tests. What we always have to remember is that the quality of a release is only as good as the quality of the tests designed for the release”.
Scenarios within Rommana are either Use Case Scenarios or Non-Use Case Scenarios.
Comprehensive ALM Capabilities and Methodology Guidance
Rommana’s built-in best practices enable all phases of a product life cycle to be managed more effectively. Rommana Team is a free version that supports up to five concurrent users without any limitation on number of projects or size of the project. You may also purchase Rommana Global as on-premise or in the Cloud if you are interested in continuous upgrades, new features, and technical support.
“Customers like Rommana’s simple user interface, its comprehensive of features, and the full traceability it provides,” said Hanna. “We only add features that have been requested by our customers.”
Although Rommana Global and Rommana Team are distributed as end-to-end suite, the functionality of their individual modules exceeds some of the industry’s most popular point solutions. RQX Requirements Toolkit, an independent professional development firm serving business analysts, rated Rommana the second highest among 16 requirements tool providers in a recent report that stated “The advantage is traceability across the board from every business input through every deliverable on the project.”
Rommana methodologies and tools enforce best practices in each of the following functions:
1. Requirements Management
2. Test Management
3. Project Management
4. Use Case Management
5. Issue Management
6. Change Management
7. Release and iteration Management
8. Collaboration Management
9. Documentation Management
The repository uses a free license of SQL Express. However, it can also use full version of SQL Server.
Notably, Rommana 12.2 enables full product life cycle management in addition to project management. “It helps the product owner, product manager or release manager ensure a successful product,” said Hanna.
