This year marks the 11th running of the Horizon Interactive Awards, which identify the best of the best in web design, video, advertising, and print media. In 2011, over 1,000 entries from over 20 countries around the world poured in. This year, GraphicDesign.com will be judging the Award of Distinction, given to an entry displaying outstanding web and graphic design.
GraphicDesign.com Advisory Board members and contributors Neil Tortorella and Rafiq Elmansy will be among the eyes judging the Award of Distinction. The Horizon Interactive Awards judging panel will identify nominees for the category and then GraphicDesign.com will determine a winner.
What does it take to be a Horizon Interactive Award winner? According to founder Mike Sauce, "Most of the Gold level winners, Best of Category winners, and Best of Show winners from past competitions have been projects that are very unique in some way or have used a specific multimedia element in a new way."
GraphicDesign.com Editor and Marketing Director Julia Wild is looking forward to being part of the prestigious process: "It's an honor for GraphicDesign.com to be included in the judging process. The Award of Distinction will be judged on a variety of criteria that we're in the process of establishing, including overall aesthetics, graphic design qualities, and uniqueness."
The winner of the Award of Distinction will receive a matted certificate with the GraphicDesign.com logo and get a special showcase on the Horizon Interactive Awards website. The latter will also feature feedback from GraphicDesign.com as to why the winning entry was selected.
Speaking on last year's lineup of entries, Sauce observed, "The overall diversity and quality of entries we received was fantastic and judging was very competitive. We’re continuing to see a convergence of many media types into one dynamic, content-rich solution, but it is also exciting to see the renewed emphasis on creating great overall design and user experience elements."
Other special awards being dished out this year include Best Use of Photography, Best of Show, Best Use of Typography, and International Award of Distinction. The awards are spread across the categories of Web, Mobile Apps, Print, Video, and Advertising. The deadline to submit a piece of work is December 21st and each entry is $50. Each work may be submitted to more than one category in order to increase its odds of winning and one can enter here. The lucky winners will be notified in May when the Awards are announced.
An article about GraphicDesign.com's involvement in the Horizon Interactive Awards will be released on the site later in the week. Visit GraphicDesign.com to see what's buzzing in the graphic design world.
