AppComp 2012 is a mobile apps competition as part of Apps Expo 2012 being launched by ‘Silicon Lakes’, the Gold Coast’s new innovation and technology community based within Varsity Lakes.
Aussie appreneurs are being invited to pitch their ideas to a panel of expert judges in the hopes their app idea will be picked up and developed for world-wide release through the global app stores. As well as thousands of dollars up for grabs, finalists will also have the opportunity to pick the brains of industry experts and attend a mentoring program to help them develop their ideas.
The competition is being hosted by professional geek, Marc Fennell, best known for his popular ABC radio gig, ‘Download This Show’ and the acclaimed ‘Hungry Beast’ series on ABC TV.
“The goal of this event is to stimulate great app ideas by talented Aussies which can be developed locally and released globally,” Mr Fennell said. “This will play a crucial role in expanding local innovation and cementing Silicon Lakes’ position as a major force in the exploding mobile application industry.”
The world’s leading IT research company, Gartner Inc., reports mobile app store downloads around the world will surpass 45.6 billion this year and increase to a staggering 309.6 billion in 2016.
The inaugural Apps Expo and AppComp are proudly supported by Queensland Microsoft Innovation Centre, Samsung Electronics Australia and AppStart Studios and will be held on Saturday 3 November 2012 from 8:30am at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
