BOSTON -- A 40-foot whale died Thursday after it was found stranded on ice at an Eastham beach, according to the Cape Cod Times. The whale, of unknown species, was found at Dyer Prince Beach. It was initially spotted by a local resident who called the International Fund for Animal Welfare. When rescue teams arrived, it was in four feet of ice and slush and was still breathing, but it eventually died, the newspaper reported. On Wednesday, a minke whale was spotted swimming in Wellfleet Harbor, but officials were not sure it was the same whale that died. Four stranded dolphins were released back into the ocean Wednesday after becoming stranded in the same area. WCVB.com
