On Saturday, October 6th, Southland Mall will be awarding a $1,000.00 check to the Dade Reading Council for their contribution in championing the mall’s ‘Literacy Campaign’, launched earlier this year. The non-profit organization is sponsoring a storytelling event to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Southland from 12:30-2:30 pm in the Center Court. Children will receive free books for participating in the read-in session.
“We are thrilled and heartened by the success of our campaign. In February, we set out to reach 1000 readers by October 31st. Once achieved, the mall would donate $1,000.00 to a local non-profit organization or library...Their video platform not only encouraged reading, but made learning fun for the kids and their parents,” said Maggie Anzardo, marketing director for Southland Mall. The entire community is invited and encouraged to attend.
