Gao Lin put Guangzhou ahead in the 27th minute. Just a minute later, Al Ittihad's Diego de Souza equalized for the hosts at 1-all. Substitute Huang Bowen ensured the Chinese side would go into halftime with the lead when he scored in the 38th minute with a low shot. Naif Hazazi was brought down in the penalty area. Mohammed Noor scored from the penalty spot in the 49th minute to tie the match at 2-all. Hazazi then put the match out of reach when he out-jumped the Guangzhou defence to score in the 62nd. Hazazi added a second in the 89th. The Jeddah club are now in a strong position to reach the semi-finals for a record fifth time. The return leg is in Guangzhou earlier next month.
