Bo Xilai Implicated in Multimillion Dollar Corruption Scandal: Deutsche Welle
An investigation into disgraced Chinese politician Bo Xilai has uncovered serious disciplinary violations, and corruption in the order of 100 million yuan—that's according to German media Deutsche Welle. It said on Tuesday this information came from sources inside Liaoning, where Bo was provincial governor during the 1990s. Bo has not been heard from since March, after he was sacked as Chongqing's Party Secretary. In April, Chinese authorities announced they were investigating Bo for disciplinary violations, and removed him from his Politburo position. Bo's latest official mention came this month after the trial of his former police chief Wang Lijun. State-run Xinhua News Agency cryptically referred to Bo as the "leader of Chongqing," who slapped Wang in January, after he brought up Bo's wife Gu Kailai's murder of British businessman Neil Heywood. Analysts read that as the Communist Party leadership readying itself to make the final move against Bo. NTD's China analyst Zhao Pei says the latest leaked information to Deutsche Welle indicates that Bo may be dealt with much more harshly than Wang Lijun. Wang was given a combined sentence of 15 years imprisonment for charges of defection, abuse of power, covering-up Heywood's murder and taking 3.5 million yuan in bribes.
