Russian patriarch encourages youth to learn from tragedies
At one of Moscows largest sports centres, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with a group of young people and students on May 23rd. This was the first such meeting of its kind and, importantly, the encounter was organized by the students themselves. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church was happy to accept the invitation and he addressed the five thousand participants with some spiritual reflections. In his speech, Patriarch Kirill emphasized that the radical attempts to establish human happiness without God were the main cause of Russias tragedies in the 20th century and that, with this unfortunate history, Russia cannot allow itself to make the same mistake now. He finished his speech with the following words:If we ponder this historical experience and act with due consequence uniting our spiritual and material values then we will really build а prosperous society that will become an example for many others. At the end of his speech, Patriarch Kirill answered some questions from the young people present and others who sent their questions via satellite link from the sports centres square.
