Tom Barton- President Medvedev says senior government figures should leave company boards
It is 30th March 2011 President Medvedev announces that the investment climate for Russia is 'very bad'. The reason foreigners and Russians alike don't trust investing in the Russian economy he says, corruption. In order to combat it he announces reforms to government bodies concerned with overseeing investment but most importantly he takes aim at senior government figures who sit both in senior government positions and on the boards of large Russian companies. The energy and finance sectors are the most notable examples. One name that the press particularly focuses on is Igor Sechin, simultaneously Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of state oil company Rosneft. According to Medevedev's announcement he and others like him will have to leave their business positions by July, to be replaced by industry professionals.
