The Seattle City Council voted Monday to cap the amount of money towing companies can charge for impounding cars from private property. The legislation that takes effect in January sets a limit of $183 for the first hour of towing and $15.50 for up to 12 hours of storage. The president of an industry association that opposed the regulation says it will decide later this week whether to sue. Dan Johnson of the Towing and Recovery Association of Washington told The Seattle Times ( http://is.gd/VXM6tm ) the city should have considered adopting higher towing rates set by the Washington State Patrol. The council was prompted to act by a Times columnist who reported towing fees in the city often exceeded $1,000. ---
