NHK World News ---- Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai Description -- The World Health Organization is on the alert after the discovery of a new virus similar to the one that caused the SARS epidemic 9 years ago. The WHO says British health authorities informed the organization that a 49-year-old man from Qatar has been found to be infected with the new coronavirus. The man developed a fever and respiratory problems in early September after returning home from Saudi Arabia. He was admitted to an intensive care unit in a Doha hospital and airlifted to London on September 11th. The WHO says it has no plan to recommend any travel restrictions for the countries to which the man has traveled. The SARS outbreak killed more than 770 people, mainly in China and other parts of Asia. Sep. 24, 2012 - Updated 07:32 UTC (16:32 JST)
