Google's relationship with the Chinese regime turned hostile in January last year when it decided to stop censoring search results in the country. The company cited issues over censorship and hacking as the reason for its decision. At the time, it had been the victim of cyber attacks from China. The company eventually shut down its China-based search engine and now redirects users to its Hong Kong site. But issues with the Chinese regime have been ongoing. Google revealed more hacking attempts from China in June of this year. And a recently leaked US diplomatic cable revealed that the cyber attacks against Google may have been ordered by top-level Chinese leaders. Although Google no longer runs it search engine from China, it does provide other services on its China-based site, such as translation and music downloads.
