In a joint press conference, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh on Wednesday named Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as one of their choices for the post of President, a move that apparently left the ruling Congress party running the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) II egg-faced. Naming of Manmohan Singh in a way can be construed as loss of faith in the Prime Minister by Trinamool Congress, the second biggest constituent of the UPA II. It is also seen as Mamata Banerjee's deep-rooted opposition to Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is the first choice of Congress, followed by Vice President Hamid Ansari.
