Aid Is Coming to Flood Victims in Vietnam

Rain has flooded rivers in five provinces in Vietnam. Rescuers have started to deliver food and other essentials to flood victims, as the water continues to rise. Rescuers arrive in a flooded village in central Vietnam with long-awaited supplies. Torrential rains over the last week flooded rivers, inundating tens of thousands housed in five provinces. Vietnam Red Cross says 30 people have died in the flooding. The government puts death toll at 28, with seven missing and nine injured. State television showed pictures of flooded roads and houses as rescue teams delivered food and essentials to victims. Military personnel have been dispatched to isolated villages to rescue residents. In Quang Binh province a landslide blocked national highways and stopped transit on railways linking the north and the south of the country. Weather forecasts predict more rains and expect water to rise even further. The country's long coastline is also at risk. Up to seven storms that are forecast to come out of South China Sea this year are likely to reach the Vietnamese coast. Central and northern Vietnam generally bear the brunt of Vietnam's storm season, which lasts through October.
