US and China on brink of trade war over solar industry
The US and China are gearing up for a trade war that could cause further job losses in America. The US Commerce Department has opened an investigation into China's green energy industry for allegedly dumping solar panels onto the country. It claims the alleged dumping is aided by Chinese government subsidies that make prices lower than the cost of making and distributing them. Meanwhile, the solar industry in China has described the allegation as a political farce by the Obama administration ahead of the upcoming presidential elections. US buyers and installers of solar energy systems say any new restrictions on Chinese solar panels would slow the adoption of clean-energy technology in the US. They also say any limitations could cost Americans thousands of jobs.
