London 2012: Shooting's New Stars Emerge

SH1">men's 10m Air Rifle Standing - SH1 final, while there was a first-ever Paralympic gold medal for FYR Macedonia on Day 2 of the Games.

Over 20 years younger than his main rival, the 26-year-old equalled silver medallist Jonas Jakobsson's world record of 596 in qualifying, finishing with a final score of 699.5.

Beijing gold medallist Jakobsson, winning his 29th Paralympic medal for Sweden, admitted that he had not been at his best.

He said: 'The way I shot today, I knew I was too far away from Dong...The world record is still mine but I would've had to have been right up there to get it (gold).'

Germany's Josef Neumaier, took the bronze after winning a shoot-off with Korea' Seungchul Lee. Neumaier secured the medal on the third shot.

He said: 'I have never seen a shoot-off that went into a third shot, at the Olympic Games or anywhere else...But luck was on my side.'

Despite qualifying second for the final, Neumaier was delighted with his bronze. He said: 'It took 12 years since my last Paralympic medal...SH1">women's 10m Air Pistol - SH1 event.

She was in a class of her own, qualifying in first place for the final with a world and Paralympic record of 381 points.

She followed up in the final, with her total 475.7 points setting a new Paralympic Games record.

Reigning world champion Marina Klimenchenko of Russia took silver with 469.6 points, while bronze went to Sareh Javanmardidodmani of Iran (469.0).
