Human Rights Watch, the New York-based rights organisation, has called on China to provide more humanitarian assistance for ethnic Kachin refugees from Myanmar. About 10000 people had fled from Kachin, a northernmost state in Myanmar, to neighbouring China after fighting between rebels and government troops ended a 17-year ceasefire last year. The total number of those displaced by the conflict has reached 75000.
